COSEYL Congratulates Deacon Steve Oko on His Unopposed Election as Chairman of the Abia State Correspondents Chapel.
The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone, extends its warmest congratulations to Deacon Steve Oko on his recent election as the Chairman of the Abia State Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). We are thrilled to celebrate this significant achievement, as Deacon Oko emerged unopposed, reflecting the trust and confidence that his colleagues have in his leadership capabilities.
Deacon Oko, a seasoned journalist and a dedicated professional reporting for the Vanguard newspaper in Abia State, has consistently demonstrated a commitment to journalistic integrity, social responsibility, and the empowerment of the people most especially the youth through the power of information. His election as chairman is not just a personal achievement, but a victory for quality journalism in Abia State and the entire South East region.
We also wish to congratulate Comrade Imo Thomas of Standard Times on his election as Treasurer, Comrade Henrietta Ashikodi as executive and other members on their election . Their collective leadership will undoubtedly usher in a new era for the Chapel, fostering collaboration, innovation, and the advancement of journalistic standards in our society.
As a coalition, we recognize the pivotal role that journalism plays in promoting democracy, accountability, and good governance. We urge the newly elected executives to prioritize the welfare of journalists, advocate for press freedom, and continue to champion the rights and interests of their members.
COSEYL stands in solidarity with Deacon Oko and his team as they embark on this new journey. We believe that under their stewardship, the Abia State Correspondents Chapel will thrive and serve as a beacon of hope for aspiring journalists in our region.
